CBT is the first step towards riding a Moped or Motorcycle on the road, at the age of 16 for a 49cc moped or 17 for a Moped or Motorcycle up to 125cc / 11kW power output.
To ride on the road you must first successfully complete your CBT regardless of age or licence entitlement.
The CBT course is not a test it is a training course of elements and modules designed to develop basic safe riding skills in new riders and is normally completed in one day.
All that is required to undertake this course is a driving licence with the necessary provisional entitlement and upon successful completion you are then able to ride the size of machine upon which you completed your CBT.
Your entitlement to ride lasts for a period of 2 years, you must display "L" plates on your machine and you can not carry pillion passengers or ride on the motorway.
If you do not take your DSA test within a 2 year period and pass you will then have TO COMPLETE ANOTHER CBT.
The restricted motorcycle licence course is for riders under the age of 21, or those who are over 21 and are not comfortable handling a powerful machine.
The road training is carried out on a 125cc motorcycle. When you pass your test you will be able to ride any motorcycle, which has been restricted to 33bhp/25kw for a period of 2 years. After 2 years you will be automatically licensed to ride any size motorcycle.
To apply for a restricted motorcycle licence you will need to complete and have a valid CBT certificate and theory test certificate
This scheme is designed for the over 21s who want an unrestricted licence and must pass the test with a power output of at least 46.6bhp (500cc bike ). After passing the test the rider will be fully qualified with no restrictions
You will have had to already passed your C.B.T
This course is for those wishing to return to motorcycling after an absence, designed to polish-up the ability of the inexperienced rider, updating their skills and road awareness, leading to better confidence and road safety
We run Advanced Training Courses throughout the year for those riders who have already passed their motorcycle test and would like further training.
